Papieren, Bitte!

The most recent hit in the barrage of sucker-punches to civil liberties since 9/11 will come in the form of RFID Chip embedded in every US Passport, starting October 2006. Readers more technically-saavy than I are encouraged to share details on what this means for the average American and privacy-rights in the comments section.

Take a wild guess what I'll be doing Sept 2006. Even if you don't intend to travel much, I'd still recommend those of you who want to follow suit to request the 48-page passport (it's a zero-cost option, but you need to take the initiative and ask).

Now off to less depressing matters ...

Poll #599026 "I'm from the government and I'm here to help."

How do you feel about an RFIDs in your passport?

I trust the government to respect my privacy.
I don't mind, but I worry it might be the start of a 'slippery slope' to other monitoring technology I would object to.
Hell no. I'm renewing my passport on Sept 2006.
My name is John Twelve Hawks. I live off the Grid.
