Election Day - Open Thread

Heavy turnout is expected today in one of the closest elections in U.S. history.

Lines will probably be unusually long today, but stay the course; whether you are throwing in your lot with the Bush, Kerry or a third-party candidate, persistence and fortitude are needed to make sure your voice is counted. I have made my own decisions about the candidates, but I'm not going to tell you what you should do.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I think there is something distinctly unseemly about partisan bloggers (on either side ... you know who you are) haranguing their readers with multiple posts over the past few months telling them who to vote for ... gloating over each snafu made by their political opponents, sulking about each setback their own candidate experiences ... the shocking lack of civility that marked this debate.

That said, I am certainly interested hearing what each candidate means to you, individually, and very much enjoyed essays from people like kenshi who offered his own observations and opinions on geopolitical issues we are facing ... if you'd like to share your thoughts, I'd encourage you to post links to your own journals or comments below.

I've got a full day with work and appointments, but would love to hear from you - please feel free to use this thread to post predictions, your own experiences today at the polls, etc. Once I punch my ticket, will post photos in this entry.

Stay safe, everyone.

We're at war with the most dangerous enemy that has ever faced mankind in his long climb from the swamp to the stars, and it's been said if we lose that war, and in so doing lose this way of freedom of ours, history will record with the greatest astonishment that those who had the most to lose did the least to prevent its happening.

- Ronald Reagan, National address on behalf of the Barry Goldwater campaign

Edit: Voting is done.
