CPR Training

As part of my coursework to become a certified Red Cross Disaster Preparedness instructor, I've recently completed a course on CPR, where we spent the better part of several evenings huffing and puffing into CPR mannequins while under observation by our CPR lecturer.

Most surprising revelation: The effort involved in keeping a nonbreathing human alive is very tiring work, and even five minutes of pumping/rescue breathing can take heavy toll on reasonably athletic people.

My last exposure to CPR was in Boy Scouts (twenty years ago); at that time, there wasn't the heightened concern over transmission of blood/saliva-borne infections as there is these days, so the plastic face barriers used prior to rescue-breathing was something new.

Next up - EMT coursework!
